Scavenger Hunt & Final Exam

Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences:
1) What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
2) What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
3) What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
4) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
5) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.

  1. 1. My favourite part of the Scavenger Hunt was the puzzle at the very end of the Hunt because it really made me look and try and use my brain and think out of the box.
    2. My least favourite part of the Scavenger Hunt was the in the library because I had no idea where the question sheet was.
    3. If I could change the Scavenger Hunt I would change the fact that everyone has the same question because then someone could just follow another person instead of using their own brain.
    4. I now that I have foundation gaps in my mathematical knowledge in integers, and I can tell this from the amount of time it takes me to do my homework that involves integers.
    5. Two ways that I will prepare for my final exam is do the example questions on the online textbook and starting prepare from today and not on the day before the exam.

  2. 1) I had a fun time, I learned some stuffs from my partner.
2)My least favorite part was when all of the students were moving at a same time to the same place.
3)I will give different places to go to the groups. So Group A goes to soccer field and Group B goes to Mr.Patrick's room.
4)I understand the concepts but I'm having a hard time with word problems.
5)I'm going to use the study guide, and review using the textbook.

  3. 1) I would have to say that my favorite part of the scavenger hunt was that we got to run around the school (figuratively) and we had to think a lot.

    2) I think my least favorite part of the scavenger hunt was the fact that the other groups could just follow the ahead groups and we all had to go to the same places.

    3) I would have the students choose where they wanted to go in the school rather than all going to the same place at the same time.

    4) I have always had trouble with large multiplying and dividing numbers and making my own equations for the info in front of me.

    5) I will create a steady study schedule and ask questions where they are needed. I will also get good sleep.

  4. 1) The favorite part of the scavenger hunt for me was that we were able to go around the school and solve puzzles, math problems and even compete for first!
    2) My least favorite part of the game was that everyone was going to the same place so it was crowded and sometimes it gave away the next location.
    3) I would change the scavenger hunt by making different routes and starting places. I would also, make the area of where we travel larger.
    4) I don't think I have any foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge because when I work on worksheets I don' seem to have a very hard time solving any problems.
    5) To prepare for the exams I will(and frequently am) looking back at my tests and I am also reviewing using problems from the text book.

  5. My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was that it was thrilling, and figuring out some clues, and solving math equations as a review was a very good type of review for the final for us. My least favorite part was that there were some mistakes when at the library, everyone was there and the librarian was mistaken that she didn't have the answer. I would make the clues in the Scavenger Hunt more complicated, so it will be more intellectually fun, and I guess there are some gaps, and those are minor mistakes on the tests when I go over them. I will take the final exam by going over all the tests and asking Mr.Jobe questions.

  6. 1) My favorite part was the running and finding parts.
    2) My least favorite part was when I actually had to do the math and I actually got it wrong.
    3) I would change the problems all over the school, so it would be more challenging.
    4) I think I do have some foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge. I think I'm not so good at calculating things quick and accurate.
    5) 1. I would keep on looking over the review sheet.
    2. Look at parts in the textbook to see what part's i'm not good at, and practice those parts.

  7. 1. What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was that we learned how to solve confusing math problems by a creative way of a “hunt”.

    2. What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
The least favorite part was in some of the places such as the library or the Ed tech, we had some difficulties. We couldn’t find the problem in the library, and also couldn’t find the teacher. We had confusions of after saying some kind of joke after solving a problem to Mr. Bray.

    3. What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
I would change having better, clear directions of the next location.

    4. Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?

    5. I have little difficulties of negative exponents with fractions. It is really hard for me to see which one goes down and up.

    6. This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
I will try to study my tests, homework, and study guide.
I will try solving problems for each section.

  8. 1.In the Scavenger Hunt, I had a great time. I liked puzzling out the clues to find the next. I liked the challenge of the problem and the challenge of the clue. It worked my brain hard!
I did not enjoy the fast paced part of it. I am not good at solving problems while being rushed. It makes me make silly mistakes and sometimes get the wrong answer. Because of this, I was not able to think about the different problems effectively so I can solve it.
In order to make it better, I would personally make it an individual event. I know that it would be boring and not as fun but it will benefit everyone instead of having one person doing most of the work.
I think that the gaps in math for me is combining like terms. I don’t have much trouble with actually combining the terms, but I often mess up with putting either a plus or minus sign in between. I can’t really tell which one goes. Though I am able to do some, I don’t think that I can do it constantly.
    1. I will review all of the tests and quizzes. I will focus on the parts that I messed up on. Then I will review the ones I did right in order to ensure a full understanding.
    2. I will review all of our vocabulary and try problems online and in the textbook. It will give me practice with all of the concepts.

  9. What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was how there was the final prize at the chess games. I thought that was very creative and I feel as if we got tricked into fourth place. We came in with the clue first, but we didn’t know the meaning of king, so that took us a long time.

What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
My least favorite part was the library confusion. Everyone was sure it was in the library, but since it wasn’t where we expected it, it was a bit of a panic.

What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
I would make each group go in a different route, so it wasn’t such a chaos. I think it would be more clear if each group went different ways, but had the same finish line.

Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
I think I understand the concepts, but I sometimes don’t know how to describe them or get stuck on easy steps.

    5) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
I will review my notes and study everything we did. Second, if I don’t get a concept I will take notes of it and study extra for that. If I get at topic better than the others, I would just quickly practice and move on because there might be other concepts more important than that.

  10. My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was just going around the school and solving problems. Also, I liked the part when we were going all around the school with little clues. It was thrilling because we didn’t want to be last and lose. Also, my favorite part was also that Hannah and I got first place!
I didn’t really have a least favorite part, but I think the additions will make the scavenger hunt better.
Some changes about the scavenger hunt to make it better is first, everybody was going to the same place at the same time, so I could notice where the problems were easily. So, it would be better if each group gets a different clue and problem. Also, it would have been more fun if the scavenger hunt was not only in the second and third middle school building. It could have been all around the school which would have been more challenging, but more exciting.
No, I don’t really have any foundational gaps, but I think I can improve. I can know that I have mastered all of the concepts by being able to solve every problem.
    1. Look back to the quizzes and tests I took before, and see what I got wrong, and review challenging problems.
    2. I will try problems on the textbook, study the vocabulary terms, and just study.

  11. 1) What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was working together with my partner to solve problems.

    2) What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
My partner and I were stuck at the library for a long time because we didn’t really get the problem.

    3) What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
I think I would put trick and fake ones one the walls when they go to find there clue and problem so when they try to solve it it doesn’t match their clue.

    4) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
I think I get things that are easy when I think so hard and complicated I think I should write stuff down first when I think. Sometimes I get ways to get the LCM and the GCF mixed up so I end up getting the wrong answer. I think to complicated sometimes.

    5) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
I will review my test and quizzes and I will try to do the problems that I didn’t do correctly in the test and quizzes again. I will try to do at least do 30 minutes of studying everyday and if I don’t I will do more on the next day.

  12. 1) My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was that the hints were very exciting and challenging.
    2) My least favorite part was that everybody was following each other and it was so easy for them.
    3) I would change the hints into QR codes so that it would be more dramatic.
    4) Some concepts are still hard for me like dividing and multiplying scientific notation. I think I have now mastered this because Mr Jobe has taught me MOVE IT!
    5) Study with my textbook and look at my tests and learn from my mistakes.

1.) What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
A.) My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was finding clues for the next destination. It was very amusing to find the next stage of the game. It gave clues such as the king of the school, which was actually giving a clue to the principal's office.

2.) What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
A.) My least favorite part of the scavenger hunt was answering questions. The problems were quite easy, and my partner and I knew how to solve the problem. However, the numbers were to complicated, we got the questions wrong several times.

3.) What would you change about the Scavenger to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, ect.)
A.) If I had to change the Scavenger to make it better, I would make a variety of questions that are sometimes complicated and sometimes easy. I would also make the next step of the destination more specific by giving a little more information.

4.) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
A.) I don’t have concepts that I didn’t understand so far, during math class. I know that because I am able to solve problems quickly without asking a teacher and my parents for help.

5.) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
A.) Since, this is my first time taking a final exam, I will review all my quizzes and tests I took so far. I will memorize the vocabulary that is used often in math, and practice more on the word problems I am struggling on.

  14. 1) My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was the end of the Hunt. I thought that the clue we had to solve then was the most exciting and tricky. We had to think hard, and at last we figured it out. It was when the groups were all puzzled and competitive.

    2) My least favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was in the library. I thought that the activity was a little disorganized since the librarian was not there and the other librarian did not know about it. Also, we did not find the clue, we saw where the other people found it. Because all the groups were disorganized and scrambled all over the place, my least favorite part was in the library.

    3) I would want to add more parts to the Scavenger Hunt, and would go to different places with everyone else. If the Scavenger Hunt was more in different places, such as the elementary or the play areas, it would have been more fun. I think that the Hunt was a little disorganized because everyone was in the same place. If everyone went to a different place at different times, it would have been more fun since there would be no one else who could help you.

    4) I do understand everything I learned, but I think I can improve on the concepts. I could study more often and improve.

    5) I will study little by little everyday of what we learned before the finals exam. I will review my work on my notebook, tests, and quizzes. I will also use the textbook to do some internet tests and quizzes for everything we learned.

  15. 1. My favorite part was the last clue where we were supposed to find out what the four numbers meant, which was KING. It was very interesting that even though it was in the end it made me excited. Also I liked how Mr. Jobe changed the word in sentences and made it quite confusing. For example, for the first clue, he said “Go find the scribe of the Middle School King.” (Something like that.) That made the scavenger hunt seem really mysterious and not only solving problems. I really enjoyed this Scavenger Hunt. I would be looking forward to do the Spring QR Code Scavenger Hunt.

    2. This was something that happened accidentally but Mr. Anderson, the librarian, wasn’t there so almost everyone couldn’t continue the Scavenger Hunt. That quite delayed everybody, so I think that was the lacking part even though it was something that Mr. Jobe didn’t expect this to happen.

    3. To make the Scavenger Hunt better, I think it would be better to hide the clues or problems we are supposed to find somewhere nobody would find. For instance pin up the problems behind the artworks or posters that are pined on the walls. I think this would make the Scavenger Hunt seem more mysterious and thrilling.

    4. I don’t have foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge, because in tests and quiz I never failed, and the concepts doesn’t question me “why?” or “how?”. Usually problems that are confusing makes me question this to myself, but since it doesn’t, it tells me that I understand every concepts we have learned.

    5. First, I would go over every worksheets, home works, tests, and quizzes to look for my mistakes and problems that I got wrong. After that I would try all of those problems again to remind myself, don’t make these mistakes in final exam. I would go over rules for equation, inequality, GCF, LCM, etc. so that I know all the concepts clearly. This would be the way I would prepare for my final.

  17. My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was the part where my group found the clue about ‘the king of the school,’ which we figured out was the principal’s room. I actually liked all of the riddles, just that the ‘king of the school’ riddle was the easiest.

My least favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was the part where we had to decode the numbers. I could not figure it out, when David thought about the alphabet orders. Amazing!

What I would change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better is the people with the answers of the riddles; such as the librarian, she made some mistakes.

    4.  I do not still have foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge, and I know it because I reviewed all of the important parts of the tests and quizzes, and I understood every part.

On way I will prepare for my final exam is by reviewing all of my homework, quizzes, and tests. If I found a question that I got wrong, then I should review it. Another way I will prepare for my final exam is by studying all of my math textbook units. That will help me.

  18. Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences:
What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt is the hunt itself. I really liked the idea of looking for things with the clues we received from each station and having to use our last answer to solve the next question. The questions were fairly some what challenging so I took our group some time to fix the mistakes. It was very exciting that we were able to WALK around the school to different places.

What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
My least favorite part was when all the groups went to the same place all at once. If a group found out where to go, the other group followed them. We were also all clumped in one area.

What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
If all the groups went in different places and direction, that would solve the problems. I also think we should
Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
I think I fairly understand the concept but sometimes word problems are sometimes confusing on a quiz but it’s usually 1 of 2. When I look at the mistakes I make on my test, its always some silly little mistakes on my work.

    5) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
To prepare for my math final, I am going to try working on word problems because it seems to be a weakness of mine. I would also look at all the tests and quizzes and try to solve the mistakes I made.

  19. Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences:
    1. What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)

My favorite parts were cracking codes (such as the last question), and it was very fun to go around the school and solve equations.

    2. What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)

My LEAST favorite part, was that there were too many people in on place. For example, we “were” in third place, but we ranked down to “6th” after the library incident.

    3. What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)

I want to make us not get crowded in one page, so we would go in all different places.

    4. Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there
concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?

I know I have mastered all, because I can all of those problems.

  20. 1) What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)

My favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was that the scavenger hunt not only included math problems, but we needed to find out clues from the school and our lives to figure out the clue for the next problem. Also, I liked it because we could do it with our friends and use teamwork to try all the questions that come out in the exam. I also liked the scavenger hunt because I was kind of tired that I was sitting in a desk all day long, but I got to actually move my body, exercise, and solve math problems at the same time.

    2) What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)

My least favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt was that first, the problems were too hard. It was good to be a challenge, but because it was too hard and I couldn’t solve it quickly, I was frustrated. Also, one thing I didn’t like was that whenever I moved on to a next clue, there were like 7 teams there, so it was too crowded. The loud noise and the crowdedness made other teams get distracted.

    3) What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)

To make the Scavenger Hunt better, I would make the teams get to go in different clues and directions so that we don’t all rush in to each other. Also, I would make the clues be in all floors and places so then we don’t only wander around on the 2nd and third floor. Still, I think the scavenger hunt was a very awesome thing to do!

    4) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?

I don’t have any foundational gaps except in my mathematical knowledge except inequalities and solving word problems. I had a lot of problems solving inequalities. I even told Mr. Jobe at conferences too. Word problems have always been a problem for me since Elementary school. Therefore, I try to solve a lot of word problems to study for my test and quizzes. I know I have mastered all of the concepts by solving problems, and seeing how many I get right. Also, I get help from Mr. Jobe as well.

    5) This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.

    1. First, I will read through my notes and make brand new notes to memorize formulas and steps how to do it. I will look at my homework from my math binders, and look at how to show work and how to solve it.

  21. Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences:
    1) What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)
My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was it made me think harder and faster. Also, i learned stuff from by partner.

    2) What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)
The problem that was in the library. First, we had NO idea where the sheet was, and the problem took our most of the time to solve, that made us behind. I also did not enjoy the speed. Some of the problems were like one of us did not get how to solve, or just couldn't get it.

    3) What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)
I want to change about the scavenger hunt is, we can choose our own paths, rather than following where did everyone went.

Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
Yes, I think I get most of the concepts, but then I just do some sort of silly mistake, or just being stuck on a easy problem. Another thing is, because the time limit i miss the part of the questions and forget to write the answers. I think my biggest problem is to interpert the word problem and solving equations with fractions and decimals

This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
    The ways:
Make a schedule, and get a lot of sleep.
Improve the my weakness and mistakes on the tests by practicing the similar problems.
Take random problems from all the chapters and solve them (with TIME)
Ask someone to make the test for me, and then look what are my weakness.
After all that, I will take the review test from that text book site.

  22. 1. My favorite part of the scavenger hunt is to search for the finishing sheet in Mr. Jobe’s classroom. After we had our answer, king, we searched for the finishing sheet in the classroom. I thought the king was the hint so I asked AK to search in the chess box. And there was the paper!
2.My least favorite part is when AK and I were in the library. We found the equation, but we can’t solve it until ten minutes! The other groups already solved it and went to the next step, but we were still struggling in the library. We finally got out by me answering the answers to the librarian.
    3. I would make the scavenger hunt better by adding some hints at the outside of the school. For example, I could make hints at the mountain, or at the soccer field, or maybe at the top part of the mountain!
    4. Yes, I finally have foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge. I also understand the concepts from class. For example, I solve the Inverse Property of Multiplication for solving variables. This made me very comfortable and more easy to solve equations including variables.
    5. a: I will look at all of my quizzes and tests to study for the final exam.
b: I will study some math vocabulary words to remind the concept.

  23. Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences:
What was your favorite part of the Scavenger Hunt? (You can have more than one favorite.)

My favorite part of the scavenger was that I was able to have a good opportunity to actually interact with other people(my partner) and solve the math questions by our selfs. We were also able to gain the ability to solve problems faster and think more deeply with speed. My partner and I were also able to learn teamwork during this activity. .Lastly, I think it was fabulous activity in learning math because we had to think faster, deeper, and smarter!!

What was your least favorite part? (Again, more than one least favorite is acceptable.)

My least favorite parts were when the teachers who were supposed to give us clues were not alerted well, so we had to wait. I think that resisted us to move on. The part when we had to get new clues was not smoothly processed, so I think that part was my least favorite part because we had to wait. However, overall the Scavenger hunt was fun!!

What would you change about the Scavenger Hunt to make it better? (Additions, Omissions, etc.)

I would change the Scavenger hunt by making the directions more clearly and the places more clearly described. The directions on the clue sheet was not clear enough for us to understand. So, if I would change something about the scavenger hunt, I would change the directions to be more precise and well defined for the students playing could understand it better.
(But not to make it too obvious!!)

Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?

I think I still have foundational gaps in math because I sometimes make calculation mistakes in tests or quizzes. Also, I have to read the questions carefully because I still get the equations wrong. I think I would fix that problem by paying more attention to the questions.

This is the first time that you have ever had to take a final exam. Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.

I usually prepare big tests or quizzes by summarizing or (social studies... etc) reading through the textbook. Specifically for math, I look at the examples in the textbook and solve some problems we did in class.
