  1. We were trying to teach about Absolute Value. We tried to teach how to write it and tried to teach what it is and teach about it. I think that we sort of accomplished our goal. I think this because some of our rhythms were off and we timed it wrong so a couple of words are cut out in the chorus. Other than that I feel like our lyrics and our message was pretty much clear. I learned many things about Absolute value and how some people can easily get confused. I also learned that writing and performing a song is VERY difficult. I wrote the lyrics but still had to make adjustments that will make the song better because of Kevin's suggestions. On group work, I would give my self a A-. I think that both Kevin and I contributed a great amount and worked hard. I think that managed our time very well and put together a good song that was worth the time. I definitely think I need to work on conflict solving. There were a couple of times where we had to make decisions but we couldn't really decide. I think that we could have been a lot more productive if we had spoke our minds and got it over with.

  2. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
-I was trying to teach the math concepts of multiplying and dividing integers.

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
-I do feel like I have successfully accomplished my goal in this assignment because, if you listen to the lyrics real close, then you can hear that the song clearly states all of the information we learned.

What did you learn throughout this process?
-I learned throughout this project Garage Band was actually very fun and easy to mess with.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
-I, specifically, did the vocal recording and editing of lyric to contribute to this project.

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
-I think that I would give myself a B or something because I did my share of the work with high effort but the recording part might have been a little off.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
-One group skill that I think the two of us could have done better would be recording better and sooner so that both of our voices would have been in there.

  3. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach about Properties to the class. The Properties that are included in
the integer song are Associative Property and Commutative Property.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I do not feel like I successfully accomplished my goal, because we had a difficulty in
explaining examples of Associative Property. The example became very long when we
explained it saying "parentheses" or even "bracket". So we had to figure out other ways
to replace that word. Other than that, I feel quite satisfied.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
Throughout this project, I learned more clearly about properties, because sometimes I
got quite confused with Associative Property and Commutative Property, and the song
helped me a lot. The reason the integer song we composed helped me a lot is because I
think while trying singing the song pretty well and recording it, I memorized the lyrics that
it helps me get reminded. Also I learned more about GarageBand. I have used it before,
but I never used the Magic GarageBand, so I feel as if I learned a lot about GarageBand.

    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I specifically wrote the half of the lyrics and and sang and recorded the half of the song
    to contribute to this project.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I would give an A- on group-work, because I believe Ariel(Kim) and I worked hard, and
tried to use time wisely, but we could have talked to each other and change the melody
more exciting rather than a rap. However, other than that, we participated and
contributed to the project actively and communicate quite well. Also, we worked hard to
compose a good background music, so I believe A- is a suitable letter grade for me.

    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing
    more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think I need to improve the most on conflict solving, because our group had a problem
of replacing word “parentheses” or “bracket” as I have mentioned above, but I don’t
think the solution we came up with was 100% understandable. This leads to the
conclusion that I should work on solving conflicts better.

    Math
    Self Evaluation
What math concepts were you trying to teach?

For my song I was supposed to explain the concepts of the coordinate plane. What parts consists of it and what things you could do with it. For, example the four quadrants, ordered pairs, x and y, and the origin.

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?

To me this was very satisfactory. First, of all I know finishing a song this quick is very hard. But, what I thought was that I really did achieve something big this time. My goal was to be able to finish the song, have at least a couple people compliment me and make sure that the lyrics would make sense and help some people learn. I was able to finish and it seemed as if my parents thought it was great. The lyrics in my opinion covered about everything that is important. Even if this isn’t the best song for me it was a satisfactory accomplishment.

What did you learn throughout this process?

I learned that no matter how hard a task is, if you can put your full concentration on it then it could be accomplished in any amount of time. I think that it was an important lesson for me to learn and that it will help me finish further projects in 6th grade. I also got to learn about Magic Garage Band!

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?

In my extra time even if I couldn’t memorize the melody, I think that most of my focus was on the lyrics and how that went to the song. It was something I was determined to do for my group(myself). I think the result of that determination was the lyrics came out pretty well.

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?

I think that the grade for group-work for me on this project would be based on how hard I tried to finish. I think that I would give myself a A. Even though I didn’t have a group. I think I was able to manage everything efficiently and that the best product came out from the best work.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)

I didn’t work in a group, so I was more focused than ever. However, if I was in a group I would be estimating that my problems might be that I wouldn’t be able to let go of my opinions. I would listen and help out with my friends opinions. But, inside I would always want to do my opinion.

  5. The previous one came out quite weird so I will post it again!

    1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
-I was trying to teach about Properties to the class. The Properties that are
included in the integer song are Associative Property and Commutative
    Property.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why
    not?
-I do not feel like I successfully accomplished my goal, because we had a
difficulty in explaining examples of Associative Property. The example
became very long when we explained it saying "parentheses" or even
"bracket". So we had to figure out other ways to replace that word. Other
than that, I feel quite satisfied.

    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
-I specifically wrote the half of the lyrics and did vocal recording(I sang
and recorded) the half of the song to contribute to this project.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
    -I would give an A- on group-work, because I believe Ariel(Kim) and I

  6. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
The math concepts that I was trying to teach was Multiplication and Division of integers.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I think I did not accomplish the goals, because even though I worked hard on this project, the lyrics and the rhythm did not match very well.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned how to use Garageband and that it is not hard and it is fun! Also, I learned that making lyrics to song is hard.

    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I chose the instruments for the music and revised it. Also, I started to make the lyrics so that David could have it done easier.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I give myself A, or maybe an A-, because the song was good except the last part, which did not match the rhythm, but I was late. Still, I was late because of a cause, and I worked really hard on this project with my partner.

    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think communicating always is a group skill I need to improve on the most, because we did not communicate very well, and as a result, our project was done late.

  7. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
    - I was trying to teach about subtracting double negative integers
    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
    - Yes, even though the song is weird, I think Rachel and I made the lyrics well enough to explain my concepts.
    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
    - I learned that even though it’s a group project, you have to do your works.
    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
    - I helped write the lyrics, and recorded parts of the song.
    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
-Maybe a A-? Because maybe Mr.Jobe won’t get our song and think it’s weird..
What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
    - I think I need to work more on staying on task and contributing on my work more.

  8. 1) What math concepts were you trying to teach?
A: I was trying to teach a math topic of properties, the associative and commutative. We defined both properties and created easy examples so people could easily know what the property was.

    2) Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
A: I feel like in some ways I have not successfully accomplished my goal. I believe that we should have repeated the chorus, however we did not. It seems to us like there is no chorus in our song now...
But I think other than that, we did a fairly good job.

    3) What did you learn throughout this process?
A: I think I learned more about properties during this process. While defining these properties and making the song, we had to have a deep understanding of these properties, so I think I learned more about these properties and understood them more clearly after I made the song.

    4) What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
A: I wrote about half of the lyrics, and I sang about half the song. I also edited and put in some music for the song.

    5) What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
A: I would like to give an A- to our group because I thought that everything was great except the melody and chorus. I liked the lyrics, but I really thought it would have been much better if it were a song even if it was only the chorus part as a singing melody. However, I thought everything else was great, so I would like to give an A-.

    6) What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
A: I think the group skill we needed was time management. Even though we handed it in time, we were a bit rushing since we thought the due date was earlier than it genuinely was. We could have edited it a bit more, so I thought we needed to work on time management. I thought my group worked hard and achieved a great product. Even though it was not perfect, it was a hard-worked project.

  9. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach the general properties. Our group did a stanza on the commutative, associative, and the distributive properties.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
Yes, I think that I successfully put everything needed to know about the properties in a funky rhythm. The song didn't really sound that great, but I believe that we put enough information and made a pretty good song.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that teamwork was always important in doing projects in a group. I also learned to never waste too much time looking for the perfect music and perfect everything when we could've been making sure everything was done correctly.

    4. What did you specifically do to contribute to this project.
I was the editor in this project. We all did our parts half and half fairly and together, but still I mostly edited the sounds, the lyrics and other bits and pieces.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I would give myself an A because while we were working on the project seriously, we had a fun time with it. Since we knew each other pretty well, it was easy working with my partner and everything went smoothly.

    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most?
I would say we need to work on time management better. Like I said before, we tried to perfect the information and the song, we didn't really deal with the whole song itself and how it sounded like.

    1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
We were trying to teach Distributive Property.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I think yes we accomplished the goal. Even though our song sounded a bit odd, we were able to explain the concept very well.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned more on how to use magic garage band and its voice effects, and how to make your voice fast and slow. And also, making a song sound good and matching it with its lyrics its WAY TOO DIFFICULT than it seems to. I am more comfortable with solving equations and distributive property. Its a great way to remember as the song just sticks to your head.

    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I made the background music and recorded my voice.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I would give myself an A- because our lyrics had a good content and explanation, the background music was good but the only thing that was wrong was my voice sounded really very horrible, so it overall affected the product quality.

    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I would like to improve on time management. We started a bit slow, and then just rushed to finish the project. I think I could have gone to a pace that not too much or little, since that would have had removed a lot of tension of if we can summit the project on time. I also think I would work more staying on task, as I was more looking for how did professional music sounded, and just was matching the song with it. (which was totally impossible).Rest of it was perfectly fine.

    1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach the class how to subtract double negative integers. The lyric contains mathematical words and defines how to subtract double negative integers.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I don't feel like I successfully accomplished my goal. The reason why is because we have limited amount of time to practice together and make lyrics for our song. We both didn't have much spare time to practice and record. Since we didn't want to show our actual voice, we decided to change the pitch of our voice to low and high, however that ruined some parts of the verses.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that garage band is a great source to make songs with great melody. Even though our song sounded awkward in some ways, we can judge that garage band helped us find songs and see different instruments in each category. Also, I learned the concept well enough throughout this process. We worked with this theme for weeks so I have a good understanding about subtracting double negative integers.

    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I specifically wrote the lyrics and mostly recorded the verses. I edited some part of the lyrics, and shortened or lengthened the verses.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I give myself a grade from -A to +B. I think our song wasn't that professional. It was quite hard to follow the lyrics and sometimes hard to hear. In some ways our song can be quite entertaining for the variety of voices. However, can be weird in some ways.

    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
One group skill I need to improve on the most is contributing with my partner more. We worked independently most of the time. Except for class periods. We couldn't meet each other some days and that made us rush the assignment since the due date was upcoming.

  12. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach the concepts of distributive property, and that you have to multiply it to everything in the parenthesis. I also tried to teach the formula: a(b+c) = ab + ac.

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I feel like I fully accomplished my goal because in the lyrics I specified the formula by repeating it a lot, and I also think I made it clear enough what distributive property is, and what you need to look out.

What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that it is really hard to write a song, and I really began to appreciate song writers through out the world. Also, I learned that it is not a good idea to do a singing project right after you spent two hours in the karaoke.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
We finished the project at my house, and we used my computer to record it. I also wrote half of the lyrics, and divided the part where we would sing together, or separately.

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I would give my self a “A” to be honest, because I think I listened to Ariel’s thought rather well, and I worked really hard.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think what I need to do is that I need to focus on staying on task more when we are starting on a project because I really like to listen to music instead of writing it, so... yeah.

  13. 1. My group was trying to teach the commutative, associative, and distributive properties in other words the general properties.

I think out group successfully achieved our goal because I think we put enough information into the song in a rhythm that is easy to follow so I think it’ll be easy.

    3. I learned throughout out this process what some of these properties are because my memory got stiff over the summer break so I forgot some of the material from last year and that teamwork is really important during a group project.

    4. Jae was the editor of the project so he did the editing and stuff and we divided our parts up into half so Jae did one half and I did the other half.

    5. I think our group deserves a A- because we did really well in making the song and everything but the singing part of the project. I don’t really think that it came out that well.

    6. I think we can work on time management because we had time to finish the recording and the lyrics and everything but we didn’t really have time to look at the overview of the whole song and stuff like that.

  14. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
    Absolute Value!

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I think I did successfully accomplish my goal because I was able to finish in time and went over the song perfectly!
    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that time management was really important, and making songs are really difficult!
    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
Make the song, lyrics, and record!
    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
A- because we nearly did perfect, but I think James did the 60%.
    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think we should have done more communication because we did our lyrics at home!

  15. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach adding positive and negative numbers.

    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
Yes because I tried my best and put all my effort into it. Also, it took time trimming, editing, and finalizing the song, I am satisfied and think that I successfully accomplished my goal.

    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned some more steps I didn’t really use and care about when adding positive and negative integers. I also learned the rules that I just learned simply.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I wrote the lyrics with the group and then lastly edited it to this final copy, then I made the song on garageband, not using the basic music thing. Then after recording, I recorded the sub voices and edited and trimmed the music and finished.

    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
Of course I want an A because I am satisfied with the outcome, also we put the lyrics on the blog on time and turned the song in on time. Mostly because we tried our best with all our effort!

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think I need to improve on maybe staying on task? But for this project, we are stayed on task.a

  16. Integer Song Self-Reflection Questions
    Hannah Kim 7G

    1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?

We were trying to teach the audience how to add integers. We talked about the steps and how to combine the positive and negative signs in our song.

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?

I felt like I successfully accomplished my goal because our goal was to make the song, teach the audience the basic concepts of adding integers, and have fun. Most people stress out that it’s a project and everything, but our group really had a great time playing around with Garageband and recording the song with our teammates in a practice room.

What did you learn throughout this process?

I learned that teammates are always good to have, so that you can cooperate with your friends or your group mates, associate, and make good memories while doing a project. Also, I learned exactly how to add integers by memorizing verses. I think that learning with songs really helps you study than reading off flashcards. Finally, I learned that if we try our best, we get fun and memories as a gift.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?

I recorded few of the verses, and sang the song with everybody. Yoo Bin did the editing part because we used her computer to make the song. I also contributed on making the lyrics of the song.

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?

I would give an A- to myself, and an A to our group. I feel like I didn’t do a whole lot of work in this project, and I think I could’ve contributed more. However, our group stayed on task and we tried our best, so I want to give ourselves an A straight away.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)

I think I should work on contributing more. I think we could’ve improved on splitting our roles, but we had no time to waste, so we just decided very quickly. Our group never had conflict issues, although we were deciding if we should do the Reggae or Funk. We decided to just not use a magic Garageband, and use our original one. It took more time, but it solved our problem. Also, we really stayed on task. We showed great concentration and finished it thoroughly and quickly.

  17. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
We were trying to teach the absolute value.

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
We included information about the absolute value throughout the song for the listener to understand it good.

What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that teaching in this kind of method is really hard.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I did all the sound effects and the music, and sang half of the song.

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
A ~ -A because we worked hard on this project writing the lyrics interesting, and making the music interesting.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  18. 1. The math concepts I was trying to teach were the simple steps of solving the absolute value in an interesting and fun way.
    2. I think I successfully accomplished my goal because I showed the steps of solving the absolute value very clearly.
    3. I learnt that we need to time manage well to get our project in time and I learnt that song projects are very fun and are easier than you think.
    4. Patrick and I were partners, I did the lyrics and Patrick made the song. Then he sent the song to me and I recorded first and then I sent it to him and he recorded himself too.
    5. I think I would give my group and A-, or a B+ because it was fairly okay but some problems were that we didn't time manage well enough.
    6. One group skill I need to work on most is co-operation and always checking on your partner if he is doing the right thing.

  19. 1. What math concepts were you trying to teach?
I was trying to teach how to do the distribute property and also give tips when writing the property. We also gave an example problem so the listeners could get a clear understanding.
    2. Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?
I feel like I accomplished my goal because my job was to work mostly on the lyrics. Writing the lyrics and fitting it into the music was not very easy. We had to make changes to the lyrics I wrote.
    3. What did you learn throughout this process?
I learned that making music is one of the things I don't do best and if you heard my voice... well, I'm not much of a singer. It was a time consuming job and we had to work hard. I also learned how to teach others this property and do it in a fun and in a musical way. :D
    4. What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?
I specifically made the lyrics. On my way my parter did help me out and I also helped her with the music.
    5. What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?
I would give my group an A- or a B+. We worked hard on it but I don't think we used our time very wisely and our quality was a bit off. I had more ideas that I wanted to contribute but because of the time limits, I wasn't able to get to them.
    6. What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)
I think one skill is staying on task and contributing more. We worked hard but I don't think we gave it a 100 %. I feel like looking back at the song, I could of made a few more changes.

  20. What math concepts were you trying to teach?

Our group is trying to teach how to add integers. We included the information how to add positive integers and negative integers together! :)

Did you feel like you successfully accomplished your goal? Why or why not?

I think our group has successfully accomplished our goal because we put accurate information for the students to understand how to add integers. We followed the directions and went over the lyrics so that it can suit the rubric well.

What did you learn throughout this process?

I think I learned more about adding integers and it was a good opportunity to learn how to summarize the important points. I also learned how to work together with my group and help each other throughout the project.

What did YOU specifically do to contribute to this project?

I contributing on writing the lyrics and rapping. My other group members did the editing and singing. Besides those, I helped my other group members rap and edit so that it could become a beautiful song about adding integers!

What letter grade would you give yourself on group-work and why?

I would give an A- to my self because I think that I could've done more group work. I felt that I should've contributed more to the project and help my group members more.

What one group skill do you think you need to improve on the most? (staying on task, contributing more, conflict solving, etc.)

I think I should work on contributing more because our group was on task every project day. We solved our problem when Hannah couldn't record her voice when the due date was tomorrow. As I said before, I should contribute and help my group members more so that they can finish their work fast and complete the project!
